Favourite book covers

I was rearranging my bookshelf and was looking at my covers and it gave me an idea of doing a post on my favourite book covers, these videos are some of my favourites to watch on booktube.

The Novice by Taran Matharu

The book cover of the novice shows Fletcher's demon Ignatius who is ridiculously cute. It also shows that he can use magic which is by his left hand and the symbol behind him. I think the cover is perfect for the book.

The Hobbit by J.R.R Tolkien

There are two different versions of this cover. One is a more brighter and eye catching, the colours of the other has been dulled down. I love both of the versions of this cover over the others as to me it represents the characters. you have the woods and open space which reminds me of the shire. Next you then have the mountains which represents the Dwarfs.

The Wicked deep by Shea Ernshaw

I love both the UK and US cover, they both symbolise parts of the plot. I am yet to read this book but i really want to get to this book. The US cover is a dark blue with a pentagram, moon and bird on the cover which tells you that this is a witchy book where as the UK cover doesn't really give that away

Uprooted by Naomi Novik

I love both of these covers like the previous two. Also like the previous one i have yet to read this book. The first cover gives it and old and fairy tale look to it where the colours of the second look beautiful. It also shows that it takes place in a village surrounded by a forest.

The Bone witch by Rin Chupeco

The bone witch cover i think is one of the most beautiful covers. It is eye catching and even though it has a person on the cover which is something i usually hate it is done so you can't see her face. It also has a skull on the front which shows that it involves death, she is a necromancer.

Nevernight by Jay Kristoff

The UK cover of Nevernight is beautiful as well as having things inside the crow that are used/involved in the book like Mr.Kindly and a Dagger. It also has an important quote on the cover, Mia is told this by her mum and tells herself this whenever she needs to.

Carry on by Rainbow Rowell

The new paperback cover of carry on is such a gorgeous cover. I haven't read Carry on yet so i can't say if the cover gets across what the book is about.

Geekerella by Ashley Poston

This is one of my favourite book covers. It is a good cover as it shows that it is a Cinderella retelling. It shows the magic pumpkin the food truck that she works at which apart from the name is the biggest clue to the fact that is a retelling. The name is also tells you what the book is about, Elle is a geek.

4. Sloth-What book have you neglected reading due to laziness?
I have avoided reading the lord of the rings as it is such a big book.

5. Pride-What book do you talk about most in order to sound like an intellectual reader?
There isn't any book that i use to sound like a more intellectual reader.

6. Lust-What attributes do you find attractive in male characters?
I love adorable, cute and nerdy guys, i can't think of any bookish examples at the moment but from Dragon age Alister and Cullen.

7. Envy-What book would you most like to receive as a gift?
It is hard to choose, i really want the a copy of the Diviners as i love the book but don't have a copy for myself or A darker shade of magic collectors edition.

March and May book haul

This book haul was supposed to have been done in March but during March and April i wasn't happy with my writing, struggling with my mental health and lacked motivation. I am feeling better and have more motivation so hopefully more posts. This will be a combination of March and may's hauls so this will be a long post.

I brought a few books off amazon on the first few days as i kinda wanted to buy some books but also i badly wanted to read Gemina.

Gemina is the squeal of Illuminae and takes place on jump station Heimdall following Hanna the Heimdalls captain's daughter and Nik a part of the house of knives a crime family.

i have just started reading this book as it took me ages to read the poison study due to getting distracted.

The next book is Bygone badass broads. I brought this with Gemina on amazon, as soon as i got it i read it straight way.

I have a review on this book if you would like to know more of my thoughts about it.

This book is non-fiction and about 52 forgotten women who have changed the world.

The next book is The nowhere girls which was also brought on amazon with Gemina and Bygone badass broads.

I have wanted to read  this for a while so brought it whilst it was £2 for when i want to read a contemporary.

The book is about Lucy who was raped, victimised and then ran out of town. Grace, Rosina and Erin create the nowhere girls to get justice for Lucy a girl they never met.

Daughter of the siren queen is the squeal to Daughter of the pirate king.  I have been anticipating this book as i enjoyed the Daughter of the pirate queen, it was so much fun and a great book.

Daughter of the siren queen follows off from the end of pirate king when she has completed her mission and has got the pieces of the map.

The fifth book i brought in March was Children of blood and bone. I was in Waterstones and supposed to just be browsing but saw it and couldn't resist picking it up along with two other books. The Waterstones edition has red sprayed pages.

Children of blood and bone follows  ZĂ©lie as she magic back after the king ruthlessly takes it away, she is also joined by a rouge princess.

Along with Children of blood and bone a brought The Inquisition and The Battlemage, the second and third book of The Summoner series. I loved the first book so much that i have to finish the trilogy.

The Inquisition follows Fletcher a year after The Novice ends.

Norse mythology was a gift, i have wanted this book for a long time as i love mythology. In this book Neil Gaiman was able to retell Norse myths like Ragnarok and turn them into a novel. The book stays close to the actual myths but does take some liberty as it is a retelling.

I brought Truthwitch on kindle as it was on sale and has been a book i keep wanting to buy but due to my lack of money have brought other books that i have wanted more instead.

Truthwitch is about Safiya who is a truthwitch, one of the rarest magical abilities. After fighting with her guildmaster and his bloodwitch bodyguard Safiya must flee with her friends.

The next eBook i brought in the kindle sale was The unbecoming of Mara Dyer. I had mainly heard positive things about this book, i brought it as i thought it would be good to get something i had a bit of interest in and was out of my comfort zone and not something i typically read. I don't know much about this book except that Mara Dyer is an unreliable narrator.

The third eBook is The thousandth floor, like The unbecoming of Mara Dyer i don't know much about this book and isn't something i would usually read.

I have head mixed reviews and heard it described as a scfi gossip girl.

The last eBook i got was the palace job. I brought The palace job because of the author Patrick Weekes, he is a writer for Bioware and has written for the Dragon age series, my favourite games.

He has recently written a new book which i want to read but thought i would start with his first trilogy.

State of sorrow was the last book i got in March. State of sorrow is about Sorrow whose court the Court of Tears which is in perpetual grief caused by her brother’s death who died before she was born. She governs the court instead of her farther who is still grieving until her brother is apparently found alive and she no must decide whether to step aside for 'her brother' or to fight for the position she hasn't ever wanted.

The first book that i brought in May was Beautiful broken things. I have been in a reading slump and couldn't get through any of my fantasy books.

Beautiful broken things follows Caddy and Rosie who are best friends Suzanne comes into their lives and Caddy realises just how much fun a little trouble is.

Beyond a Darkened shore is the second book i got in May. This was April's book for Fairyloot, it was delayed and i got it in May.

The book is Beyond a darkened shore by Jessica Leake. The book is about Ciara who is the princess of Mide. She has been protecting her people with her power to control minds and actions. A crow ends up appearing whispering of a dark threat. No one believes her visions but believes that the whole world will be destroyed. she captures Leif a Northman and enemy but he has been having visions as well so team up.

Leah on the offbeat was an anticipated book, i had pre ordered and had to wait till may to get it as the paperback was released after the hardcover in April. I haven't read it yet as i am back in a fantasy mood. i have mainly heard positive things about it but have heard a few bad things about the bi rep, which is sad as i love Becky Albertalli and i want to love Leah on the offbeat. I have been so excited for this as i am fat and bi.

In Leah on the offbeat, Leah has yet to come out as bi to her friends even though Simon came out two years ago. Leah doesn't know what to do when her friend group starts to fracture.

Next is A court of frost and starlight which i have hear mixed things about. I haven't finished A court of wings and ruin yet but wanted to buy his book anyway and don't know anything about it.

I preordered Ace of shades as Emmmabooks loves it. it isn't something that i would normally read like a few others on this list but this year i have wanted to read books that are out of my comfort zone.

Ace of shades takes place in New Reynes where casino families reign. Enne's
mum goes missing so she leaves school to find her. She meets Levi a con man and her only way to find her mum.

Onyx and Ivory is the last book of this haul. I received it in this month’s Fairyloot as the book of the month. I haven't heard anything about this book and haven't read any reviews for it.

Onyx and ivory follows Kate who inherited the title traitor from her father who tried to assassinate the king. Kate was born with magic that allows her to influence the minds of animals, being a wilder is punishable by death. She protects Corwin the reason for her being and outcast and the boy she loved and who broke her heart. they must forget about the past for there is a threat.

April Fairyloot

Just got my April Fairyloot and have been so excited about receiving it and i loved this box. I have wanted to blog but didn't know what to write/post so thought i would do a Fairyloot unboxing. The theme for April was Whimsical journeys.

The first item in the box is a beautiful travel mug. This was designed by Ink and wonder and has a map of Narnia on it. I am not a fan of Narnia but the mug is so pretty and i it so much and will be using it. I am kinda obsessed with it.

The second item is a Flick the wick candle. It is called Leif's ship and smells like Spruce, Fir and Sandalewood. Just taking the lid of and i can already smell it, it is that strong. The candle is themed on the book of the month on what Leif would smell like and his ship.

Next up is a tote bag which features the quote i am going on an adventure said by Bilbo Baggins from The Hobbit by J.R.R Tolkien. I don't have a tote bag and have been wanting to get one so i'm excited to now have a Hobbit one.

Fourth item is a Fairyloot exclusive luggage tag. It is designed by Lovely owls books and is Newt Scamander's suitcase from Fantastic beasts and where to find them. I have actually needed one as i used a cheap on my suitcase last year and it had gotten broken so need one before i go on holiday in the summer.

Next is two pins, the first is a promotional ace of shades pin the other is a beautiful pin from Percy Jackson by Rick Riordain. This pin was designed by Tarajah and is an enamel pin of Blackjack Percy's Pegasus.

The sixth item is a Notepad designed by Little inkling designs. This is also an exclusive item and features a quote from the darkest minds by Alexandra Bracken.

The last item is one of my favourites. It is an art print of a sign post with lots of fictional places. This is designed by Fictiontea designs.

Finally, we are now on to the book. The book is Beyond a darkened shore by Jessica Leake. The book is about Ciara who is the princess of Mide. She has been protecting her people with her power to control minds and actions. A crow ends up appearing whispering of a dark threat. No one believes her visions but believes that the whole world will be destroyed. she captures Leif a Northman and enemy but he has been having visions aswell so team up.

I hadn't heard of this book before but has Celtic and Norse mythology in so i want to read it. along with the book there was the fairyloot bookmark signed bookplate, a sticker, the fairyscoop and a letter from the author which also has art on the back.

May's box is save the kingdom and there will be items inspired from An Ember in the ashes, The Winners trilogy, The Remnant chronicles and Throne of glass. The book will have sprayed pages and the box will contain an exclusive book sleeve.
